Education
While the main focus of the Institute's activities is on research, the Institute's program is completed by activities aiming at education and training for different groups of people.
The idea of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft is to learn by giving a lecture about some new results which have been found recently by other researchers working on some specific topic.
The Oberwolfach Seminars are organized by leading experts in the field, and address Ph.D. students and postdocs from all over the world. The aim is to introduce the participants to a particular hot development.
The Institute also hosts the final training week for especially gifted pupils to prepare for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). For many years now the MFO has been partner of the talent promotion center of the federal and state governments "Bildung und Begabung". In the years 2020 and 2021 the Institute even became the German exam center for the IMO, since the competition had to take completely online and decentralized due to the Corona pandemic.
Moreover there have been training weeks for school teachers and librarians of the State of Baden-Württemberg on a two-year-rotation.
